Questions about Build

When will it be possible to get a printed guidebook?
It is already possible! Especially the guides on The Netherlands, India, South Africa and the specific regions and cities in these countries are very complete.

Can I already see what information would be in my personal guidebook if I could get one right now?
Yes, you can. Use the Build options on the homepage.

Be aware that the project is only live since August 2007. Many destinations don't have much content yet.

What will be the price for a printed guidebook?
The prices depend on the amount of pages the book has.

Questions about Read or "Write"

I cannot find the town I visited.
If no one has written about it, it is possible that the town does not exist yet on WritingTravellers. Try to find the town by using the search option on the homepage. If your town does not exist, you can be the first to write about it! Go to the specific country, then to the region (if relevant), then click on Add town... to add the town.

I added a town, but I cannot find it any more.
You can always type the name in the 'search' box on the homepage to go directly to that town.

What does the * mean that I see behind some links?
This means that there are items available in the section the link refers to. When the * is missing the section is still empty.

I want to know what are nice things to do in a town, but I only see the sections Moving, Hostels, Practical Info, Language Info, Climate Info and Background Info. Where can I find the nice things to see or do?
To find the information you are looking for, first choose a region or town, here you will find categories like Sleeping, Doing and Eating and Drinking. In very big cities you sometime even have to select an Area first.

In the right hand corner of the screen I sometimes see the word 'Bookmark' and different colourful icons next to it. What is this for?
This button can be used to bookmark a page of the WritingTravellers project through several websites like StumbledUpon or Del.icio.us, or it can be used to share a page through a social network like Facebook or MySpace.

How can people see that I wrote an item?
If you are registered (and logged in) when writing an item, your username will be visible in the right hand column next to the item you worked on. Your username will also be mentioned underneath each item you co-wrote if someone prints a book. In the back of the printed guides there is a Writers Index where you can see who wrote what. If you are not logged on while writing your work will remain 'anonymous'.

I wrote an item, but I get an email that someone edited it. Does this mean my username is no longer visible with this item?
Your username will remain in the right hand column in a text like this: Item last edited by John01, based on work by 'you' and 'someone else'.

When I add a new item, I cannot add a picture to it. How come?
You can only add pictures to existing items. So first save the new item, then click on the edit-button at the bottom of the page or on the pencil-icon next to the item title. Now you can add a picture.

Is there an overview of all the items I created or edited?
There is a list of all items you get alerts about when someone changes them. The items you worked on are automatically added to this list. You can see it when you are logged on and click on My watches in the Menu.

I do not want messages any longer when people edit items that I have worked on. How do I stop this?
You can stop these messages (alerts) separately for each page you worked on or added to your watch list in an other way. Here are the steps. First: log on to the WritingTravellers Project via any site that hosts the project. Second: Go to the page you do no longer want to get alerts about. Third: click on the 'eye' next to the title of the page. It will turn into an eye with a red circle around and a line through it. You won't receive alerts about this item any longer.

What spelling conventions should I follow in the writing of the town/region names? Regional or English?
If there is an English name for the town or region use it. Otherwise the local name is fine. See also the Guidelines and this discussion
