Brooklyn Bridge
WritingTravellers open guidebooks: written by travellers and locals, printed specially for you.
The Brooklyn Bridge is a unique sight to see, and many visitors to New York seek it out in a more intimate way with the typical walk across the East River, which takes about 30 minutes and can be done in either direction on foot or by bike, for no toll. It's a great vantage point for viewing Manhattan and the other bridges...
But there's another unique way of getting to know the Brooklyn Bridge, and that's seeing the bridge itself. From the river.
Of course you could take a ferry ride down the river, but that requires schedules and the will to face New York weather. Keep in mind that unless you're from Minnesota, Helsinki or Moscow, you really don't know how cold it can get in New York in January.
But there's a better way. Easy and cheap, the best way to see the Brooklyn Bridge is on the N or Q trains, which cross the river on the neighboring Manhattan Bridge, over the water. You won't have to worry about the weather since the subway is heated in the winter time and air conditioned in the summer. | | |
