WritingTravellers open guidebooks: written by travellers and locals, printed specially for you.

My name is Marjolein Vegers and I love to travel. Mostly I am interested in culture and nature. When it comes to culture I am especially interested in ancient Rome and dolmens and stonecircles. I want to climb each castle (or ruins) I can find on my way. And I have a thing for islands, I don't know why.
Before I go on holiday I like to gather as much information as possible. That is part of the fun of going away. I have visited beautiful places and there are so many more places still on my wishing list! Great Britain is a all-time favourite!

But I am also in love with my own small country, the Netherlands. During the weekend I often go out to visit a town or to walk through the beautiful nature that my country has to offer. It's great to share these experiences through this website and hopefully to motivate others to visit the Netherlands. ;-)

When I am going out, I always take my camera with me. You can find my pictures on Flickr

In daily life I work as a doctor with elderly in nursing homes. I also teach medical students at the university.

My most recent travels:
2005: Southwest USA & Northern England
2006: La Palma (Canary Islands) & Denmark
2007: Sao Miguel (Azores) & Florida (USA)
2008: Budapest, Algarve, Norway and Mallorca
2009: Antwerp, Athens and Peloponessos, Brittany (France), New England USA (Boston, Cape Cod, Martha's Vineyard, Providence)
2010: Madeira in March and Iceland in June. Iceland has been on my wishlist for so long now, time to finally go! ;-) And it met my expectations in every way! In October I revisited Rome. I remember walking through the historic sites as a 17-year-old so vividly. Now, 16 years later, I went to see it all again and more!
2011: In March another travel-wish will come true: Morocco and the desert. Can't wait!

In the earlier years: Slovenia, France, Croatia, Turkey, New York, Niagara Falls, South-England, Andalusia, Rome, Northern Italy, Southern Germany.

In 2009 I was asked to become more involved in WritingTravellers and I jumped at the opportunity. Thank you for having me!
